School Profile: Castaic Middle School is located in the unincorporated suburban town of Castaic in the northwest corner of Los Angeles County within the Santa Clarita Valley. Castaic Middle School is a nationally recognized School to Watch (STW) and has been since 2001. The criteria are derived from the compilation of a meta-analysis and include the following four points that are considered characteristic of a high performing middle grades school: (1) Academic Excellence- where curriculum is rigorous and relevant, (2) Developmental Responsiveness- where there is a safe, healthy and personalized learning environment that is responsive to the unique needs and interests of young adolescents, (3) Social Equity- where all students in the school have access to high quality classes and the support they need to achieve at high levels, (4) Supportive Structures- where faculty have shared leadership, collaborative learning communities, professional development and other organizational supports (National Forum for Middle Grades Reform 2009)
CMS serves approximately 1,160 students in grades six through eight. Castaic Middle School is home to an award winning Performing Arts Department, including CMS TV – (student led television studio) and advanced band.
